National Diploma (ND)

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this programme is to produce technicians in the field of Electrical/Electronic Engineering for the manufacturing, assembling, servicing and power generation, transmission distribution and utility industries as well as communication, electronics and instrumentation industries.

Graduates of this programme should among others be able to:

  • Construct simple Electrical and Electronic circuits when necessary for use in Medication of or as part of the major construction.
  • Erect, assemble and install simple Electrical/Electronic equipment.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs of simple Electrical/Electronic installations and equipment.
  • Select and use appropriate instrument to carry out simple installation and equipment under various conditions.
  • Operate relevant equipment and installations when ever required.
  • Prepare simple bills of quantities and specifications related to Electrical/Electronic Engineering works

 ENTRY REQUIREMENT

  1. A credit pass in English and 4 credits in SSCE, WASC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB at one sitting.
  2. 5 credits in not more than two sittings in (1) and (2) above, the credits must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English any other Science subject.

Higher National Diploma (ND)

The Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology is designed to impart on the students specialized and useable skills in this field of Engineering. There are three options currently available in the programme, viz:- 

(a) Electronics and Telecommunications

(b) Electrical Power and Machines

(c) Instrumentation and Control 

A student is required to specialize in one option 

 

Electronics and Telecommunication 

The programme is aimed at producing Technologists in electronic engineering for the manufacturing, assembling and servicing industries. On completion of the programme, the diplomate should be able to:- 

  1. Solve practical problems in electronic engineering analysis and experimentation;
  2. Construct and design complex electronic circuits for use in modification or as a part of major construction;
  3. Erect, assemble and install electronic equipment and systems;
  4. Carry-out routine maintenance and repairs of electronic installations, equipment and systems;
  5. Apply the basic principles of management to manage engineering industries.

The programme is designed to produce Technologists in Electrical Engineering for the manufacturing, power generation, transmission, distribution and utilization industries. On completion, the diplomate should be able to:- 

  1. Solve practical problems in electrical engineering analysis and experimentation;
  2. Design complex electrical installation, wiring and circuit projects using appropriate connections;
  3. Erect, assemble and install electrical equipment and system;
  4. Prepare detailed bills of quantities and specifications related to electrical engineering works.
  5. Commission and operate relevant equipment and installations

The programme is aimed to produce a technologist in instrumentation and control who will be knowledgeable and skilful in the installation and repairs of instruments. On completion of the programme, the diplomate should be able to: 

  1. Assemble and install instrument and control systems
  2. Design simple instrumentation and measuring systems;
  3. Analyse and solve practical problems in analytical instruments and control systems

The general entry requirements for the HND programme include: 

  1. All the requirements for admission into the ND programme;
  2. A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 2.50 and above) in the ND examination in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology;
  3. A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 2.50 and above) in the ND examination in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology;

 3. A minimum of one year cognate work experience.

The general entry requirements for the HND programme include: 

  1. All the requirements for admission into the ND programme;
  2. A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 2.50 and above) in the ND examination in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology;
  3. A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 2.50 and above) in the ND examination in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology;
